HOSTPLUS Executive Member Guide

Section 3. Benefits of investing with HOSTPLUS Executive

The information in this document forms part of the HOSTPLUS Executive Product Disclosure Statement 31 October 2011.

We’re the executive superannuation product within HOSTPLUS, the industry superannuation fund for the hospitality, tourism, recreation and sport industries.

Being part of an industry fund, we offer low fees, tailored insurance arrangements, we don’t pay commissions to financial advisers and we’re run to benefit our members.

HOSTPLUS Executive receives accolades - from SuperRatings: Platinum, their highest possible rating. And from Chant West: their top 5 Apples Corporate Super rating for highest quality fund (small plans).

And you don’t have to retire to benefit with HOSTPLUS Executive.

There’s a complimentary financial plan for your super when you join and our members also value the extras, like HOSTPLUS Executive’s Additions program - which offers low cost banking, reduced private health insurance rates, and for eligible members, savings on travel and accommodation.

And regardless of whether you change jobs or leave the industry, you can always stay with HOSTPLUS Executive and continue enjoying the benefits of being a member.  In fact, we can help you plan at every stage of life, even to retirement - with the HOSTPLUS Pension Plan.

  • We're run to benefit our members

At HOSTPLUS Executive, we don’t pay commissions to financial advisers. Not one cent. Our industry fund heritage also means we don’t have shareholders in the traditional sense. Instead, HOSTPLUS Executive is run to benefit members.

  • We offer low fees

With no shareholder dividends to pay – and because we refuse to hand out trail commissions for planners and advisers – we have no reason to charge high fees. Our member fee is a fixed, competitive $2 per week plus investment expenses.

  • Competitive returns

We aim to achieve competitive, long-term investment performance for members. Our Balanced (default) option investment performance has outperformed the Median Balanced Option over the longer term, that is the past 5, 7 and 10 years according to the SuperRatings Fund Crediting Rate Survey (8 August 2011) as at 30 June 2011.

Past performance is not a guide to future performance.

  • Wealth Protection

Right now, your most valuable assets are your health, family and your income earning potential. Protecting these assets is an important part of a smart financial plan.

So HOSTPLUS Executive gives you access to three key types of insurance cover:

    • Death and Total & Permanent Disability insurance cover
    • Death Only insurance cover, and
    • Salary Continuance (also known as income protection) insurance cover.

Terminal Illness cover is included as part of any Death cover.

Some employers make their own special insurance arrangements with HOSTPLUS Executive on behalf of their employees. HOSTPLUS Executive also gives employers the option to really add value to members’ total benefits packages by allowing them to fund all or part of their insurance cover. If this is the case, you will be advised of these arrangements by your employer and/or in your welcome letter.

If your employer hasn’t made insurance arrangements or you have opted out of your employer’s insurance arrangement with HOSTPLUS Executive, you will generally receive default cover.

If eligible for default cover, members aged between 25 and 64 automatically receive two units of Death and Total & Permanent Disability (TPD) insurance cover at $3 per week.

Members under 25 years receive one unit of Death and TPD insurance cover at $1.50 per week.

  • Your investment strategy – your choice

HOSTPLUS Executive gives you a choice of 19 investment options, offering a wide range of investment strategies to suit your investment time frame, long-term goals and risk profile – from growth asset classes, like shares and property, to defensive asset classes, like fixed interest and cash.

Because we care about your financial future, we encourage you to seek expert financial advice about super.

HOSTPLUS Executive members can access high quality, low cost financial advice from Industry Fund Financial Planning (IFFP) a division of Industry Fund Services Pty Ltd ABN 54 007 016 195, AFSL 232514.

    Expert, easy-to-understand advice

All IFFP financial planners are fully qualified and are authorised representatives of Industry Fund Services Pty Ltd under its Australian financial services licence. They can provide comprehensive advice, in plain English, about:

    • budgeting – so you can take control of your money
    • investment options – so you can maximise your money
    • insurance – so you’re properly protected
    • tax – so you get back what you’re entitled to
    • super – so you can enjoy a comfortable retirement.

Importantly, they can help develop a financial plan tailored to your current lifestyle and future financial goals. And naturally, they can help you review and refine your plan down the track, so it keeps pace with the changes in your life.

    Commission-free

Unlike many advisers, IFFP is not paid by commission. That means IFFP licensed financial planners are free to recommend strategies that are appropriate for you, not them.

There are no hidden costs. Instead, IFFP charges a simple fee for advice. But, if the service attracts a time based fee, your IFFP licensed financial planner will make a free assessment of your requirements and provide a fixed no-obligation quote upfront.

These fees are only deducted when you seek advice and provide approval of the deduction on an ‘as needed basis’.
